The Magliano de' Marsi project brought together design, technological and production excellence. The plant was conceived as an outstanding Italian factory for producing confectionery products for people with coeliac disease and diabetes. The intervention harmoniously combined production, research and educational functions, creating an integrated complex that enhanced the local area — struck by the 2009 earthquake — and offered concrete employment opportunities for the community.
The facility stood out for its innovative approach [1]: on the quality side, the factory ensured food safety through “controlled DNA” certification, guaranteeing the origin and quality of raw materials, and complied with strict Halal standards to offer products suited to often-overlooked groups. From an environmental standpoint, the building incorporated sustainable architecture solutions, demonstrating a concrete commitment to reducing environmental impact.
This project left a significant mark on the industrial landscape, combining production excellence, social responsibility and environmental sustainability [2], and establishing itself as a benchmark for innovation and regional development.
[1] Innovative approach
The factory guarantees food quality with “controlled DNA” certification and is fully Halal-compliant, also offering safe products for people with coeliac disease and diabetes.
[2] Environmental sustainability
The building has zero environmental impact, with a green roof, self-generated energy and a design inspired by the morphology of the Marsica region.
